Police, prison deploy mobile CCTV near Balsam Ghut

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force and His Majesty’s Prison Service have deployed a mobile CCTV unit near HM Prison Balsam Ghut as part of a joint effort to strengthen security and deter unlawful activity. The surveillance unit will monitor the area surrounding the prison and provide an additional layer of security. Officials said its visible presence should help deter suspicious activity, including attempts to introduce prohibited items into the facility. The initiative expands existing security measures and forms part of continued collaboration between the police and prison authorities.

It will also support intelligence sharing, efforts to prevent criminal activity and measures to protect prison officers, prisoners and the wider community. “The security of HM Prison is an important part of protecting the wider Virgin Islands community. This deployment demonstrates the RVIPF’s commitment to working alongside HM Prison Service to deter criminal activity, support the security of the prison and safeguard the public,” Commissioner of Police Richard Ullger stated.
