Khankendi hosts discussions on Azerbaijan–UN partnership for sustainable development in Garabagh

Khankendi, October 23, AZERTAC A high-level strategic dialogue titled “SDG Moment in Garabagh: Azerbaijan–United Nations Partnership for the Future” was held at Garabagh University in Khankendi to mark the 81st anniversary of the UN. Discussions focused on sustainable development cooperation, the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Garabagh economic region, and accelerating regional development. In his address, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Economy Minister Samad Bashirli noted that Garabagh’s reconstruction encompasses sustainable resettlement, economic revitalization, human capital development, and environmental sustainability.

He highlighted smart settlements, transport links, green energy, and social projects as key elements of the region’s development. He also noted that the Azerbaijan–UN Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030 prioritizes inclusive socio-economic development, human capital, ecosystem protection, climate resilience, and green growth. In his remarks, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Dmytro Shlapachenko stressed the importance of partnerships and locally tailored solutions for sustainable development in Garabagh.
