Justice Now Says New Prison Chief Offers No Progress for Grieving Families

Speaking on Observer AM, group spokesperson Khalid Shabazz said a change in leadership would make little difference. He warned that newly appointed Acting Superintendent Jermaine Anthony represents the same system that failed his son.

Colonel Trevor Pennyfeather recently went on pre-retirement leave following intense public scrutiny over conditions at His Majesty’s Prison. Shabazz insisted that replacing senior officials provides no sense of progress or accountability. Alongside broader prison reforms, the group continues to call for the resignation of Attorney General Sir Steadroy ‘Cutie’ Benjamin. The group’s concerns centre on inmates with mental health conditions being held in prison cells rather than receiving care at Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital.
