14-year-old boy charged with Eric Albert’s murder

Acting Interim Commissioner of Police Richard Ullger Police have charged a 14-year-old boy with murder in connection with the shooting death of Eric Albert in Greenland last year. Acting Interim Commissioner of Police Richard Ullger said officers from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force’s Major Investigation team formally charged the teenager on Tuesday. Albert was fatally shot in Greenland on June 20, 2025. “While the advancement of this case demonstrates the unrelenting dedication of our investigators to pursue justice no matter how much time has passed, it brings me no satisfaction to report that the individual charged is a child,” Ullger said in a statement today. He said the case raised wider concerns about the factors leading young people towards violent crime.

“This case highlights a deep, concerning reality that we as a territory cannot afford to ignore,” Ullger stated. “When a 14-year-old is implicated in an act of such extreme violence, it points to a critical rupture in the social fabric that protects and guides our youth. ” The police chief said the RVIPF would continue to investigate crimes, apprehend suspects and place alleged offenders before the courts. However, he said policing alone could not address the conditions that expose young people to serious criminal activity. Ullger called on parents, guardians, educators, community leaders and social organisations to work with the police to protect young people. “We must collectively double our efforts to intervene early, mentor our youth and steer them away from drugs, violent crime and gang influence,” Ullger stated.
