FIFA backs new Baghdad sports centre in Iraqi football development plan

Baghdad (IraqiNews. com) — Following discussions between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Iraqi Football Association President Younis Mahmoud, FIFA will finance a new football development initiative in Iraq that includes a Baghdad sports center, new training grounds, and facilities for young players. According to the Iraqi Football Association, the two executives discussed a new plan for upgrading the country’s football infrastructure and developing players, coaches, and other personnel.

FIFA intends to assist the building of a sports center in Baghdad that will serve young age groups, as well as artificial-turf training grounds. The youth pitch projects are expected to be completed within 60 days after receiving the necessary land. The discussions also included proposals for a high-quality primary training surface, a new Iraqi FA headquarters, a sports health center, other training facilities, and player accommodations.
